My Contributions to The World Are Valuable
(Affirmation:My Contributions to The World Are Valuable)
The world needs your light.
It needs you.
Yet, at times we wonder if what we do makes any difference. Well, today I want to tell you that it does. I know that we can look around and see the pain, heartache, and suffering that is going on in this world and wonder if we can really make an impact.
Now is the time to rise, to stand up and let your light shine. To reach out to others in strength, energy, and love. To seek to understand each other rather than tear each other down. To stand up for what you know is right, because if you don’t, Satan will. Every light, including yours, makes a difference.
What keeps you from feeling like your contributions to the world are valuable?
Take a moment and think about that question. Write down some of the things that come to mind and send me a message so that I can support you in working through those blocks in order unlock the light within you.
The interesting thing about what holds us back from embracing our value, is that often it is the way that we think. The thoughts that we are having are the very things that keep us from letting our light shine. So, take a moment and write down some of those thoughts you are having. Is it that you feel overwhelmed by the darkness in the world? Or is it that you have tried to stand up and do what is right in the past but were criticized for it? Or is it that you have reached out to others before and it went unnoticed or no change seemingly occurred? Or is it that you feel that sharing your light and talents with others is a form of pride? What are those thoughts that keep you from moving forward in serving and loving others and in sharing what you believe to be true?
As we gain a greater understanding of what keeps us from moving forward in contributing to what is going on in the world, then we can work towards where we want to be because we know where we are and what is standing in our way.
Satan would have you doubt yourself. He wants you to feel that what you do doesn’t make a difference. He wants you to keep your light hidden. He doesn’t want you to shine. He knows that if he can keep you from shining his darkness will continue to spread through out the world. He will do everything he can to keep you from seeing the value of who you are.
And you are a child of God. God’s light is inherent within you. Believe in God. Embrace His light within you. Let it grow. Let it shine.
And for those times when you feel that what you do is not making a difference, remember this, “…the worth of souls is great in the sight of God (Doctrine and Covenants 18:10).”
Every soul is of worth in the eyes of the Lord. Every soul, including yours. He wants you to know that. He wants you to shine. And He has said, “And if it so be that you should labor all your days… and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy… (Doctrine and Covenants 18:15).”
Often, we do not even see the impact that we have on just one soul. I know that the people who have given me the strength and light that I needed in some of my darkest moments, do not realize the extent of how they impacted me; the sharing of a quote on social media at just the right time that helped me to see that strength within me, the anonymous gift left on my doorstep reminding me that someone cared, or the friend/leader who took the time to listen and to sit with me in my pain. We are making a different which each small and simple thing that we do for another.
Abinadi in the Book of Mormon is a wonderful example of letting your light shine even in the midst of opposition and still not seeing the results. Abinadi was brought before a wicked king because he taught repentance and the need to turn to the Lord. The king and his priests threatened to kill him, and they eventually did, but not before Abinadi said what the Lord wanted him to say. In doing so, one of the king’s priests believe Abinadi’s words. That priest, Alma, tried to reason with the king, but instead the king turned on him and Alma ran for his life. Alma in turn taught the things he had learned from Abinadi and baptized hundreds of people. What’s more is that millions of people have now read the Book of Mormon and read the words of both Abinadi and Alma. Yes, Abinadi only brought one soul unto Christ that we know of, but as a result many were blessed by his words. What’s more, is that it is unclear as to whether Abinadi even knew the extent of his impact on Alma. He was doing what the Lord asked of him, no matter the cost and because of it, many have been blessed by his example.
At times, you may be like Abinadi, seeking to do the Lord’s will and yet not seeing the impact that you are making. Yet you are still making an impact. You are part of the process of keeping the Lord’s light on this earth.
And you are so very needed.
Let your light shine.
